We invite you to review the discussion document topic areas in this section, and to answer a few questions at the end of each section. We want the site selection process to reflect the ideas, experience and best advice of Indigenous Peoples and Canadians.

Let us know what you think! We will use the input we receive to improve the proposed process.

Once we have finalized the site selection process, we will invite communities to consider taking part in the site selection process, beginning around 2028. We will conduct technical studies to identify a safe area to build the repository, working closely with informed and willing host communities. Our goal is to conclude the site selection process in the mid 2030s. We will then begin the regulatory decision-making process to confirm our site selection. This deep geological repository will ensure Canada can safely manage intermediate-level waste, non-fuel high-level waste, and possibly used fuel from new nuclear reactors which may be built in the future.

The feedback and comments we receive will also be summarized, along with other comments from Indigenous Peoples and Canadians, and published in “What we heard” reports.
